The Gravity Adventure Festival is 10 years old in 2012!
The Gravity Adventure Festival started 9 years ago as a kayaking event. It was timed to coincide with high water conditions on the Palmiet River near Kleinmond, about an hour from Cape Town. Additional events were added each year until the Festival reached its current format. It can now justifiably claim to be SAs most diverse Adventure Festival and possibly one of the biggest.
In 2008/2009/2010/2011 the Festival averaged 650 - 1000 competitors across all the events and involved seven adventure disciplines. The Festival is well known as the Original Adventure Festival in South Africa and other events have been based on the same model. The core strength of the festival is the cross-pollination between events - the competitors have similar profiles and many enter more than one event. This allows events to feed off each other and create awareness and growth in all disciplines. The Festival is held in the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, an hour from Cape Town, and opens up this amazing valley to all participants to enjoy.
Changes for 2012
Over the years the Festival has become a very popular and well established event on the Cape Adventure calendar and attracts adventure enthusiasts from all over South Africa. This year, the organisers, Gravity Adventures, are bringing aboard some experts in the adventure events industry to help the Gravity Adventure Festival reach its full potential.
Organisers
We have teamed up with legendary South African adventure racers, Tatum Prins and Graham Bird to make 2012 the best Festival yet! Andrew Kellett and Gravity Adventures remain stakeholders in the Festival and will be hosting all the Paddling events at this years festival.
Tatum Prins and Graham Bird, both well known off road multi-sport athletes, have been involved in organising and staging events around the country for the past 10 years. Having been team mates for the past five years they have developed an outstanding understanding and have combined forces in Mountain Runner Events to bring their passion for the outdoors to the adventure sporting market.
Headline sponsor
Merrell has seized the opportunity and come on board as headline sponsors for 2012. This allows the organisers a good platform to be able to put on a wide selection of events that will suit any outdoor adventure enthusiast. We welcome Merrell on board and look forward to many years of partnership going forward. The headline sponsor will be assisting in the promotion of the event as well as the running of the event hub.
What to expect in 2012
